Documentation of the material on which my COMPLAINT is based is
provided below. Video tapes of "Father of the Pride" are
available from the Parents Television Council.
COMPLAINANT believes that the excerpts cited from "Father of the
Pride's" content are in context and fully representative of the
show's overall tone and quality.
COMPLAINANT also believes that such material is:
(a.) Clearly offensive according to the standards of my
community; and
(b.) Especially offensive because it was broadcast at an
hour when millions of children were watching; and
(c.) Particularly shocking in light of the NBC network's and
its affiliate stations' repeated promotions of the show in
the weeks prior to its premiere episode as "from the makers
of 'Shrek'" -- a highly popular feature film for children;
such promotions inevitably had the effect of attracting
millions of children to watch.
For the reasons above stated, COMPLAINANT urges the FCC to
exercise its responsibility to enforce the existing law against
indecency on broadcast TV between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10
p.m. (Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1464) by levying severe
sanctions against the broadcasters of this program.
COMPLAINANT RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS THAT THE FCC ACKNOWLEDGE
RECEIPT OF THIS COMPLAINT, AND THAT THE FCC KEEP ME INFORMED OF
THE PROGRESS AND RESULTS OF YOUR INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER.
EXCERPTS from the August 31, 2004 premiere episode of "Father of
the Pride"
An animated orangutan calls his wife "a bitch"
A panda
refers to her "slutty sister"
An animal trainer is accosted by a sexually
aroused chimpanzee
Larry Lion
bellows out at one point, "Big Daddy's home and he's
ready for lovin' ... It may be 9 o'clock
in New York, but right here it's
mountin'
time."
A male house
cat lies on the floor between Larry's
legs. There is a slurping sound. "What?" asks the cat.
"Your wife ain't
doing it. I'm
all you got, sunshine."
Such material is patently offensive, and should be found in
violation of the law against broadcast TV indecency!
When you click the SUBMIT button below, the PTC will forward
your INDECENCY COMPLAINT to all 5 Commissioners of the Federal
Communications Commission.
A copy of your COMPLAINT will also be forwarded in your name
to TOYOTA, as
sole sponsor of the premiere episode of "Father of the
Pride," with the following message:
I am outraged at the frightening increase in violence, sex,
filth, smutty humor and coarse language on prime-time
television. TV shows have been poisoned by a flood of
offensive material that is helping destroy family values and
seriously harming America's children and grandchildren and
SPONSORS LIKE YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT WITH YOUR ADVERTISING
DOLLARS!
In particular, TV was poisoned by the August 31, 2004
premiere episode of "Father of the Pride" aired on NBC-TV
and SOLELY AND ENTIRELY SPONSORED BY YOUR COMPANY, after
weeks of incessant promotion of the show as "from the makers
of 'Shrek'" thus guaranteeing that young children would be
attracted to the show.
As a consumer, I am taking part in this grassroots campaign
organized by the Parents Television Council (PTC) to urge
you and all commercial TV Sponsors to STOP USING YOUR
ADVERTISING DOLLARS TO UNDERWRITE THE FILTH THAT IS
POISONING THE MINDS OF MILLIONS OF IMPRESSIONABLE
YOUNGSTERS.
I hope and expect to hear from the PTC that your company has
adopted a new and more responsible advertising policy that
will preclude sponsorship of any program containing material
as indecent as that featured in "Father of the Pride."
Finally, a copy of your COMPLAINT will also be forwarded in
your name to the NBC
station in your area, which broadcast "Father of
the Pride" to the homes in your community, with the
following message:
I am outraged at the frightening increase in violence, sex,
filth, smutty humor and coarse language on prime-time
television. TV shows have been poisoned by a flood of
offensive material that is helping destroy family values and
seriously harming America's children and grandchildren and
YOUR STATION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SPREADING THE FILTH IN OUR
COMMUNITY!
In particular, TV viewers in our area were slimed by the
Auguest 31, 2004 premiere episode of "Father of the Pride"
aired on NBC-TV and BROADCAST TO OUR COMMUNITY BY YOUR
STATION. Since your station had also broadcast NBC's
incessant promotion of the show as "from the makers of
'Shrek'" in the weeks prior to the premiere, YOU HAD TO KNOW
THAT MANY YOUNG CHILDREN WOULD BE ATTRACTED TO WATCH.
I am taking part in this grassroots campaign organized by
the Parents Television Council (PTC) to urge you and all
network-affiliated TV stations to TAKE A STAND IN DEFENSE OF
OUR COMMUNITY AND STOP UNQUESTIONINGLY PUMPING OUT TO OUR
COMMUNITY ANY FILTH THAT THE NETWORK FEEDS YOU.
Federal law holds YOU responsible for what you broadcast,
and SO DO I!
STOP POISONING THE MINDS OF OUR COMMUNITY'S IMPRESSIONABLE
YOUNGSTERS!
I hope and expect to hear from the PTC that your station has
adopted a new and more responsible policy that will preclude
broadcasting between the hours of 6 am and 10 pm any program
containing material as indecent as that featured in "Father
of the Pride."
