PTC Forms L.A. Foothills Chapter
La Crescenta parent is chapter director
The Parents Television Council™ (www.parentstv.org®) is a non-partisan education organization advocating responsible entertainment. It was founded in 1995 to ensure that children
are not constantly assaulted by sex, violence and profanity on television
and in other media. This national grassroots organization has more than 1
million members and 35 chapters across the United States. PTC works with
television producers, broadcasters, networks and sponsors in an effort to
stem the flow of harmful and negative messages targeted to children.
The PTC also works with elected and appointed government officials to
enforce broadcast decency standards. Most importantly, the PTC produces
critical research and publications documenting the dramatic increase in sex,
violence and profanity in entertainment. This information is provided free
of charge so parents can make informed viewing choices for their families.
The PTC L.A. Foothills Chapter invites area residents to attend an
informational meeting at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd., La
Cañada on Friday, Aug. 12, from 7-9 p.m.
There will be another meeting on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. For
more information, visit www.parentstv.org.
The Parents Television Council (PTC), an advocacy organization that aims to
protect children against sex, violence and profanity in the media, has
formed a Los Angeles Foothills chapter.
La Crescenta resident Michelle MacNeal has been named chapter director.
"Michelle MacNeal personifies [the] adage [that] if you want to get
something done, give it to a busy person," said PTC executive director Tim
Winter. "She is a local community activist and one who is committed to
getting things done."
"We are thrilled to have Michelle join our grassroots team in this important
leadership role," Winter added.
MacNeal is a licensed nurse with more than 17 years hospital experience and
a graduate of Biola University. She is involved in the national Mothers of
Twin's Club, serving as local chapter president. She also was relay center
coordinator for the Samaritan's Purse: Operation Christmas Child.
"As a parent and as a nurse, I have seen the influences of graphic sexual
content and gratuitous sex in entertainment," MacNeal said. "They really do
have negative affects on our children."
