CHAPTER DIRECTOR BIO:
Miryam Diaz Knigge, a Home
Shopping Consultant and mother of four, is the Miami Chapter Director for the
Parents Television Council. Born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in the Bahamas,
Knigge moved to Florida in 1970. Once in Miami, she earned her AA and AS Degrees
from Miami Dade Community College; she then went on to Florida International
University to begin studies toward her Bachelor's Degree.
A travel industry veteran for
the last thirty years Knigge has worked for many travel businesses including a
long stint at Eastern Airlines, among others
Miryam and her husband Tom have
four children, one of which is a United States Marine recently returned from a
tour in Iraq.
Aside from the demands of
motherhood and self employment, Knigge is also very concerned with her
community; specifically, she is a substitute teacher and is actively involved in
the Scouts of America and Blessed Trinity School and Church. Knigge has been a
Boy and Girl Scout Leader for 17 years, has been a Homeroom Parent at Blessed
Trinity School for 18 years, as well as finding time to be a Eucharistic
Minister at Blessed Trinity Church.
The mothers of young girls in
Knigge's Girl Scout Troop attest to her abilities and dedication, citing that
Knigge is a "true gem. Never have they met someone who can juggle such an
incredible number of balls and do it with such constant grace and an upbeat
attitude. She has a very strong social conscience and moral fiber and takes
extreme interest in the well-being of others."
Miryam founded the Miami Chapter
in 2002 . Miami was one of the first in the nation and has been very successful
in coordinating with other like-minded organizations at family friendly events.
As a Chapter Director she has built one of the biggest chapters in the nation
and was honored as Chapter of the Year for 2005.
