Parents Television Council tries to kill Dexter - Willamette Week

The Columbian Letter on Cable Choice

Hollywood says it wants to "empower" parents. If the entertainment industry really means what it says about parental control, it would give parents the ability to pick and choose channels. The industry believes that parents are wholly responsible for guarding their children against the very product it produces, while accepting no responsibility themselves.

Stephanie Snow: Beaverton Mom Wants to Clean Up TV - Willamette Week

First Oregon Chapter of PTC Created

Beaverton Resident Named Chapter Director

The Parents Television Council, the nation's most influential advocacy organization protecting children against entertainment sex, violence and profanity announced the establishment of a Portland chapter. The announcement was made today by the organization's Executive Director Tim Winter. Beaverton resident Stephanie Snow was named to head the new chapter.

"Over the past decade, Oregon families have been stalwart supporters of the PTC and its mission to protect children from harmful and offensive content on television," Winter said. "Like families across America, Oregonians are demanding that broadcasters adhere to commonsense decency standards which allow everyone to share the public airwaves. We are pleased that Stephanie has volunteered to serve her community in this important and exciting new role."

As chapter director Snow will work closely to encourage Portland area residents to work with local network television affiliates; advertisers and legislators to reduce graphic and gratuitous programming when children are likely to be in the audience. She will also work to educate local residents about how they can protect their families from the proliferation of entertainment sex, violence and profanity and the long-term harmful affects such material has on children.

"The biggest issue for the chapter is to get people involved," Snow said. "There truly is strength of numbers. The more people demand better entertainment, the more power our chapter has in its ability to make change. Together we will let our voices be heard. And together we will generate change."

The mother of three, Snow holds a degree in psychology from Utah State University. She has worked in children welfare for three years, a special education teacher and a girls group home.
