Parents Television Council Launches South Utah Chapter - PTC Press Release

CHAPTER DIRECTOR BIO:

Dedicated mother and community volunteer, Ashley J. Kartchner is the Chapter Director for the South Utah Chapter. A Utah native, Kartchner brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in social work and youth development.   Her experiences as Youth Facilitator for the Southwest Center will aid in coordinating special events and her education in Child Development from Southern Utah University brings a unique understanding of the psychological effects of the media on children.

Kartchner has long been a dedicated volunteer throughout her community. She is an active volunteer for Iron County Children's Justice Center, Communities for Decency and Southern Utah Families Against Pornography. A pillar in her community, she is responsible for the introduction, drafting and aiding in the passing of child-appropriate resolutions in three Utah cities and for legislative sponsorship in the Utah Sate Children's Internet Protection Act 2004. Involved in her local church, she has led and participated in church organizations including the Relief Society and Children's Primary Club. Kartchner is committed to her community and the welfare of today's youth.

The media's blatant exposure of violence, foul language, and sexual content has motivated Kartchner into action, "As a mother, I feel it is imperative that we stand as citizens of this great nation and speak up for our children. With the overwhelming onslaught of filth pouring through the public airwaves, we have the right and responsibility to act and hold the entertainment industry accountable."  A long time advocator of decency, she is currently serving on the state board of Membership Directors for the like-minded organization, Communities for Decency (www.communitiesfordecency.org) and is looking forward to working with the PTC. "I am honored to work with the Parent's Television Council in empowering and giving parents a voice in my area. The PTC is a wonderful tool and resource for parents across the country; it is an empowering voice for each of us," Kartchner states.
