Director of Development

Location: Los Angeles, CA

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director supervises all PTC fundraising efforts, supported by a staff of development professionals, and outside contractors.  The qualified Director has extensive background in non-profit fundraising, and has demonstrated the ability to organize multi-million dollar development programs incorporating major donor identification and cultivation, corporate and foundation giving as well as direct mail and new media strategies. DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Establish specific fundraising goals for individual and organization donors, and assure attainment of individual, team and overall organization fundraising goals.

  • Supervise and direct a team of development professionals, assuring optimum returns on investment of staff time and other resources.

  • Coordinate and supervise the work of contract partners supporting the organization’s direct mail and new media outreach strategies.

  • Seek out and manage partner relationships with interested businesses as well as corporate and private foundations to help finance PTC operations, including development of joint marketing agreements and proposals for foundation grants.

  • Plan, organize and conduct a national schedule of individual and group meetings and events for the purpose of briefing current and prospective supporters and increasing individual donor contributions.

  • Direct the preparation of all member and public messages intended to generate financial support for PTC programs.

  • Collaborate with the National Grassroots Director on strategies for identifying, cultivating and managing new members and donor relationships.

  • Supervise all internal and external databases used to track PTC member services, actions and contributions, monitoring the quality of data and assuring its effective use in support of all organization programs and objectives.

  • Contribute content to a wide range of information products in both print and electronic media, including reports, newsletters, pamphlets, and the organization’s website, email communications, and original video productions.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced writing, editing, public speaking, planning, supervision, personal communications and relationship management skills.

  • Knowledge of member service practices, individual and planned giving, direct mail and internet-based fundraising, as well as development strategies related to business partnerships, private and corporate foundations.

  • Advanced information gathering, synthesis and communication abilities; able to supervise professional staff and outside contracts; able to develop high quality work products on time and on budget.

Internships

Location: Los Angeles, CA

 

DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Parents Television Council is the nation’s most influential advocacy organization promoting and restoring responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry.

 

The PTC offers the opportunity for multiple undergraduates and graduate students to pursue their interest in the entertainment field–specifically television–and the impact it has on our culture.

 

As a an Intern, you will receive training and mentorship in areas such as advocacy, national political organizing, grant writing, donor relations, research, crafting press release and writing for monthly newsletter, event planning, as well as the chance to work closely with directors in implementing national campaigns.

 

The PTC has openings for the upcoming Spring term. An internship during the academic term requires a commitment of 10-40 hours per week, for 12 weeks. We offer course credit and pay parking. More Info

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to support the goals and mission of the PTC

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong excel and word skills

  • Basic knowledge of and interest in the entertainment industry

  • Detail-oriented thinking

  • Self motivated

  • Ability to take-on and capably manage a variety of tasks

  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications
