LOS ANGELES - The Parents Television
Council™, the nation's most influential advocacy organization
protecting children against sex, violence and profanity in
entertainment, today announced that Camarillo resident Howard
Hamilton, Ph.D. will lead the new Ventura chapter, one of six active
chapters in the state of California.
Dr. Hamilton, father of four and grandfather to
eleven, has served many years as both an educator and school
administrator. He was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as the
"Camarillo Educator of the Year." While serving as Superintendent
of Schools in Camarillo he helped found the University Preparation
Charter School.
Dr. Hamilton was motivated to join the PTC™ out of
frustration as he watched blatant violations of FCC regulations as
spelled out in licensing agreements for major networks. Hamilton
says, "I am involved in this program for my grandchildren. I want
to restore control to the FCC to where one day we can sit with our
children and watch television, during
family time, and not be
offended or embarrassed with what we see and hear. These are, after
all, the public's airwaves. They do not belong to the networks."
Dr. Hamilton joins the PTC to help provide a
counterbalance to the media giants and force them to honor their
broadcasting commitments during
family time.
Tim Winter, executive director of the PTC said,
"Volunteers like Howard are the key to spreading the PTC's mission
in communities across the nation. He has served both as a volunteer
and as a professional to advocate on behalf of families and
children. In his new role, Howard will help people in the Ventura
area to become more aware of how far entertainment content has
slipped, and to educate people about what influence they can have on
the entertainment industry. We look forward to drawing on his
extensive experience to help the PTC continue its extraordinary
progress at both the national local levels."
The Ventura chapter will educate and mobilize the
community to initiate positive change in the quality of
entertainment. It will encourage local television affiliates and
advertisers to reduce graphic and gratuitous sex, violence, and
profanity in television programming, while promoting programming
with positive, socially responsible themes.
