PTC Outraged Over Graphic Rape Scene on FX's Rescue Me

LOS ANGELES (June 29, 2006) – The Parents Television Council™ blasted News Corp. and the FX Network for airing a graphic rape scene on an episode of Rescue Me.

The graphic scene showed a man raping his ex-wife, who at first struggles against her attacker but eventually is portrayed to be enjoying the rape.  This episode aired on June 20, 2006, at 10:00 pm EST/9:00 pm CST on the FX basic cable network.

"News Corp. and FX have stooped to a new low by airing this highly offensive and sickening episode of Rescue Me.  Is this what FX considers to be entertainment – that rape is exciting and enjoyable for the victim?  Do the sponsors of this program share that viewpoint?  It is an absolute outrage that families who find this raunchy programming so disgusting are being forced to subsidize it with their cable subscription," said L. Brent Bozell, president of the PTC.

"This is an egregious example of why Americans need and want a la carte cable choice, the ability to pick and choose only the cable channels they would like to buy.  Americans are sick and tired of being forced to underwrite cable networks like FX.

"We are urging our over one million members to contact their legislators about this episode of Rescue Me and insist that they pass legislation that would provide cable choice, and to voice their opinions to the sponsors who ensured that this episode of Rescue Me could be aired," concluded Bozell.
