Local activist starts first South Carolina
chapter
LOS ANGELES (September 14, 2006)
— The Parents Television Council™, the
nation's most influential advocacy organization
protecting children against sex, violence and
profanity in entertainment, announced that local
business leader Brenda Wright Fox has been named
director of the newly formed Columbia grassroots
chapter.
The Columbia chapter will educate
and mobilize the community to initiate positive
change in the quality of entertainment. It will
encourage local television affiliates and
advertisers to reduce graphic and gratuitous
sex, violence, and profanity in television
programming, while promoting programming with
positive, socially responsible themes.
Fox, a native of South Carolina,
is the founder and CEO of Bequeath Inc, which
provides communication and planning strategies
to organizations as well as individuals in
Columbia and the surrounding areas. In
addition, Fox is a member of the Film Arts
Foundation, and has been an outspoken supporter
of family-friendly television for nearly two
decades.
"I am honored to be the local
leader for the Parents Television Council," Fox
said. "The Columbia chapter will immediately
begin a campaign to educate parents, lawmakers,
educators and others of the vulgarity and
gratuitous sexual content that are constant on
television and in video games marketed to and
viewed by children. We will help citizens voice
their concerns about the content of these
programs to their local representatives,
television networks, and video game industry
while motivating them to voice their support for
socially responsible programming."
Tim Winter, Executive Director of
the PTC said, "We are delighted that Brenda has
agreed to serve her community as a PTC
grassroots chapter director. Columbia is
fortunate to have someone with Brenda's
experience and background in this new leadership
role. She brings a wealth of expertise to work
on the behalf of children and families across
the great state of South Carolina."
