Local activist set to run
chapter
LOS ANGELES
(October 12, 2006) - The
Parents Television Council™,
the nation's most
influential advocacy
organization protecting
children against
entertainment sex, violence
and profanity, today
announced a new director for
its Carbondale-Paducah
grassroots chapter.
Carbondale resident Deanna
Gilbert succeeds former
chapter director Daniele
Loyd, who stepped down due
to the demands of a growing
family.
Gilbert, a
wife and
mother of two teenage
children, received her BS in
General Agriculture from
Oklahoma State University,
and worked for the United
States Department of
Agriculture for many years.
Active in the community,
Gilbert has spent the past
few years as a community
activist, having served as a
PTA president, a Girl Scouts
volunteer, and a Sunday
school teacher, among other
activities.
"As a
concerned parent, I want to
know what my children are
watching," Gilbert said.
"The Parents Television
Council lets me know what is
on, and it gives me the
tools to both make informed
decisions about their
viewing habits and to be
part of the movement to
clean up programming. I
want to share these things
with others and look forward
to working with the
Carbondale-Paducah
community."
"The power of
the PTC is in its ability to
bring together local
activists who are committed
to improving the quality of
entertainment for our
children," PTC executive
director Tim Winter said.
"Deanna has been a member of
the Carbondale-Paducah
chapter since its inception,
and we are honored that she
has chosen to be the next
director."
The
Carbondale Paducah Chapter
is one of 40 PTC chapters
throughout the United
States.
