Legendary DJ Joins Local PTC Advisory Board
Miami's "Dean of Rock & Roll," Rick Shaw Joins Mayor Alvarez

MIAMI (November 14, 2006) — Parents Television Council™ Miami Chapter Director Miryam Knigge today announced that DJ icon Rick Shaw has joined the Advisory Board for the Miami Chapter.  A staple on Miami radio for over five decades, Rick Shaw joins Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez on the Advisory Board.

"I am honored to join the Mayor and the Parents Television Council in their battle to return the airwaves to families," said Mr. Shaw.  "I consider the audience of my show part of my family, using language and discussing topics that children shouldn't hear would be disrespectful to that family.  It is a shame that more entertainers don't take their responsibility to their family of listeners as serious as some of us do, that is why we need people like Miryam and the PTC, to remind them of their responsibility as an entertainer."

Miami's "Dean of Rock & Roll," Rick Shaw was recently a nominee for the Radio Hall of Fame.  "Generations of Miami residents have grown up listening to Rick's morning show, and he continues to be a welcome presence on the radio after fifty years," Knigge said.  "His unwavering commitment to the community and his presence as a family friendly alternative during the too often raunchy morning drive time slot makes him a perfect partner for the PTC Miami Chapter.  Mr. Shaw, and the rest of our Advisory Board, will work to ensure that Miami residents are aware of the impact that media has on children, and to promote family friendly entertainment."

PTC Executive Director Tim Winter added, "The popularity of broadcasters like Mr. Shaw show that families want an alternative to sexually charged adult topics that dominate the airwaves.  Every community should have several broadcasters as committed as Rick Shaw is to providing family-friendly entertainment."

The Miami Chapter was named "Chapter of the Year" last year out of the 40 PTC chapters throughout the United States.
