PTC Slams CBS for Graphic Sexual Dialogue on "Two and a Half Men"

Unwitting Sponsors Should Receive Complete Refund


LOS ANGELES – The Parents Television Council™ criticized CBS for a recent episode of Two and a Half Men.  The episode, which aired on January 22, 2007, at 9 pm ET/8 pm CT contained dialog about bestiality and having sex with vegetables. The PTC also called on all sponsors of that episode, asking whether they knew of the graphic content ahead of time and whether such content accurately reflects their corporate values and brands.


"CBS should be ashamed for airing such explicit sexual dialogue, particularly at 9 pm in the Eastern/Pacific time zones and at 8 pm in the Central/Mountain time zones. And if the program's sponsors did not know beforehand the type of content that they would be underwriting on this explicit episode and are as shocked by the content as many parents are, then CBS should refund the sponsors' money," said Tim Winter, president of the PTC™.


"If, on the other hand, the advertisers had previewed the content ahead of time and knew full-well what they were sponsoring, they should seriously evaluate how their customers will feel when they learn of the sponsor's decision to underwrite references to bestiality, masturbation with fresh produce, and other graphic sexual dialog.  Is this truly the kind of content they want to associate with their hard-earned corporate brands?  We certainly intend to inform the public as to which sponsors knew what they were underwriting.


"Not only was the dialogue inappropriate for children watching during that early prime time hour, but the actor playing Jake who was involved in just about every scene is 13-year-old Angus Jones.  It vexing that CBS would pay a child to say such things."


The PTC is calling on the following sponsors to reconsider their ongoing sponsorship of Two and a Half Men until CBS is willing to return their money for the highly inappropriate episode:

Charles Schwab Johnson & Johnson Warner Brothers
Citigroup Revlon Weight Watchers
Eli Lilly and Company Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines
