PTC Requests Morgan Stanley Practice Responsible TV Advertising

PURCHASE, NY (April 10, 2007) – At Morgan Stanley's annual shareholders meeting, the Parents Television Council™ called on the company to exert more responsibility when it comes to advertising on television.  The following are excerpts from a statement given by Mary Simon Streep, a PTC Advisory Board member and the Connecticut Chapter Director, during the meeting today:

“I am here today, like you, as a shareholder in Morgan Stanley, a corporation with which I have a long history.  I am the eldest daughter of William E. Simon, a man who many of you in this room knew.  Appreciating this, it is no wonder why I am here today to speak as a concerned parent and believer in our country, and the morals and values it was built upon.

“I am an active member serving on the Advisory Board of the Parents Television Council, the nation's most influential advocacy organization committed to protecting children against gratuitous sex, violence and profanity.  I believe that bringing decency and responsibility back to television and the media would be the single most effective thing we could do for our children and grandchildren.

“The reason I am speaking directly to you today is because your corporate values and beliefs are demonstrated by your television sponsorship decisions.

“I am pleading with you on behalf of millions of Americans to adopt responsible advertising guidelines that will keep Morgan Stanley brands off of programming that contains foul language, gratuitous sex, and graphic violence.  Please let me know with who I can be in touch to follow up on our advertising sponsorship so we can let our 1.1 million members know Morgan Stanley is joining the campaign to help clean up television.

“Let's continue to be responsible corporate citizens by helping to return television to the medium that once aspired to educate, inspire and entertain families.  Like me, you are here today to exercise your deep personal importance and responsibility, and because you obviously care about all your investments.”
