Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 16, 2007
LAS VEGAS (April 16,
2007) – On Sunday, Parents Television
Council™ President Tim Winter called on
members of the National Association of
Broadcasters (NAB) to support Cable
Choice, which would allow cable and
satellite subscribers the ability to
select and pay for only the cable
networks they want.
“While consumers – and
especially families – are the primary
victims of the cable cartel by being
forced to pay for content that is
unwanted, offensive and even harmful, it
is you, the broadcaster, who suffers the
greatest commercial harm. The corporate
conglomerate broadcast networks with
which you are affiliated are using the
programming they provide to you as a
lever to gain carriage for their many
cable properties. They are building
your competition on your backs. The
bundling scheme creates an un-level
playing field for you, and I call on
each of you to join the growing chorus
in opposition to this inherently unfair
practice,” Winter said.

It was founded in 1995 to ensure that children are not constantly assaulted by sex, violence
and profanity on television and in other media. This national
grassroots organization has more than 1.3 million members across the
United States, and works with television producers, broadcasters,
networks and sponsors in an effort to stem the flow of harmful and
negative messages targeted to children. The PTC also works with
elected and appointed government officials to enforce broadcast
decency standards. Most importantly, the PTC produces critical
research and publications documenting the dramatic increase in sex,
violence and profanity in entertainment. This information is

for their own families.
