SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 27, 2007) – While at
the annual AT&T/Cingular shareholder meeting today in San
Antonio the
Parents Television Council™ praised the
companies’ responsible advertising practices. Remarks were
presented at the meeting by Julie Feuerbacher, PTC’s
Director of Development. The Parents Television Council
monitors broadcast network and basic cable programming and
noted that AT&T and Cingular support some of the most
family-friendly programs on the air today. The following
are excerpts from Ms. Feuerbacher’s statement:
“Good morning Chairman and fellow
shareholders. Thank you for this opportunity to speak. My
name is Julie Feuerbacher and I represent the Parents
Television Council, a non-profit, non-religious,
non-partisan group committed to protecting children from
explicit sex, graphic violence and profanity in
entertainment. I am here today because Cingular largely
avoids advertising on programming that contains graphic
violence, excessive sexual content and foul language, and we
want to congratulate your corporation.
“The Parents Television Council monitors
television content from all the major broadcast networks as
well as original basic cable programming. Our analysts have
been monitoring Cingular’s media buys and we are pleased to
see Cingular supporting such family friendly shows as 7th
Heaven, Deal or No Deal and American Idol.
“AT&T clearly understands what it means to be
a good corporate citizen and the importance of adhering to a
set of media guidelines for their advertising messages.
“On behalf of our 1.1 million members, I’d
like to encourage AT&T and Cingular to keep up the good work
and to continue to offer leadership in making wise media
choices.
“Thank you Chairman Whitacre and the entire
AT&T management team for promoting family-friendly
programming with your advertising dollars.”
