PTC Applauds Sears for Supporting Family-Friendly TV Programs

Hoffman Estates, IL (May 4, 2007) – While at the annual Sears Holdings shareholder meeting today the Parents Television Council™ praised the corporation for using its advertising dollars to support family-friendly television programming. Remarks were presented at the meeting by Glen Erickson, PTC’s Manager of Advertising Programs.

Mr. Erickson encouraged the corporation to continue to make wise media choices and noted that Sears had recently been recognized by the PTC as one of the top ten best advertisers by supporting such shows as Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and 7th Heaven. The following are excerpts from Mr. Erickson’s statement:

“I am here today because Sears Holdings consistently avoids advertising on programming that contains graphic violence, excessive sexual content and foul language, and we want to congratulate your organization.

“The Parents Television Council monitors television content from all the major broadcast networks as well as original basic cable programming.  Our analysts just recently released its rankings of best and worst advertisers with Sears scoring in the top ten. Advertising on such family-friendly shows as Reba, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and 7th Heaven have placed Sears Holdings in an exclusive group of content sensitive advertisers.

“Sears clearly understands what it means to be a good corporate citizen and the importance of adhering to a set of media guidelines for their advertising messages.

“On behalf of our 1.1 million members, I’d like to encourage Sears Holdings to keep up the good work and to continue to offer leadership in making wise media choices.

“Thank you Chairman Lampert, President Lewis and the entire Sears management team for promoting family-friendly programming with your advertising dollars.”
