P&G Recognized For Leadership, Integrity and
Responsible Corporate Citizenship
Procter &
Gamble, the nation’s largest marketer, is the first
recipient of the “Crown Award” for advertising
responsibly, co-founding the Family Friendly
Programming Forum and consistently basing
advertising decisions on its robust set of content
guidelines. This first-time award was presented by
Bill Abbott, Executive Vice President, Hallmark
Channel and Tim Winter, President, Parents
Television Council (PTC) to P&G for responsible
advertising. Ted Woehrle, Vice President, North
America Marketing for P&G, accepted the award.
PTC, the
nation's most influential advocacy organization
protecting children against sex, violence and
profanity in entertainment and Hallmark Channel, the
leading provider of family friendly programming,
partnered to create this award which will be given
annually to an advertiser who exhibits leadership,
integrity and responsible corporate citizenship.
“What is
often forgotten in the various debates about the
government inserting itself into private affairs
concerning regulation of violence on television is
that there is already significant influence applied
by advertisers,” said Abbott. “And it’s these
advertisers who help direct networks to maintain the
proper boundaries when it comes to content. P&G
deserves recognition for being a leader in this
course of action.”
“On
behalf of the more than one million members of the
Parents Television Council, we are honored to join
Hallmark Channel and recognize Procter & Gamble’s
extraordinary leadership as a responsible television
sponsor,” said Winter. “P&G is one of the largest
advertisers in the world, and with so many different
brands it must be extraordinarily difficult to
monitor where each advertising dollar is spent. But
our research has shown that P&G has one of the best
advertising policies in the industry, and clearly
the company and its ad agencies are committed to
abiding by that policy. We hope more television
sponsors will follow Procter & Gamble’s lead. We are
proud to join with Hallmark Channel in this
well-deserved recognition of responsible corporate
citizenship,” added Winter.
The
Parents Television Council, www.parentstv.org®, is
the nation’s most influential advocacy organization
protecting children against sex, violence and
profanity in entertainment. It was founded in 1995
to ensure that children are not constantly assaulted
by sex, violence and profanity on television and in
other media.
This
national grassroots organization has more than one
million members and 43 grassroots chapters. It works
with television producers, broadcasters, networks
and sponsors in an effort to stem the flow of
harmful and negative messages targeted to children.
The PTC also works with elected and appointed
government officials to enforce broadcast decency
standards. Most importantly, the PTC produces
critical research and publications documenting the
dramatic increase in sex, violence and profanity in
entertainment. This information is provided free of
charge so parents can make informed viewing choices
for their own families.
Hallmark
Channel, owned and operated by Crown Media Holdings,
Inc., is a 24-hour basic cable network that provides
a diverse slate of high-quality entertainment

services across the country. Hallmark Channel
consistently ranks among the top 10 ad-supported
cable networks in Prime Time and Total Day household
ratings and is the nation’s leading network in
