Local Resident Joins Growing Network of Chapters in
California
LOS ANGELES (October 29, 2007) -- The
Parents Television Council™,
the nation’s most influential advocacy organization protecting children from
graphic sex, violence and profanity in the media, announced Christopher
Minor as the director of the Silicon Valley Chapter. This is the seventh
chapter in California, the most in any state.
Minor, a father of two, is
deeply concerned about the quality of today’s entertainment and the negative
impact images can have on our youth. Minor remembers when
programs promoted positive social values and
cherished the family unit. Minor’s desire to promote family values
has spurred him to take on this challenge.
The Silicon Valley Chapter will both educate and mobilize the
community to initiate positive change in the quality of entertainment. The
chapter will also reach out to local television affiliates and advertisers
to increase support for more socially responsible programs. Minor will work
closely with his members on bringing the issue of cable choice to the
forefront of today’s media and his local state representatives. He
currently works as a Financial Analyst at Citibank.
Minor is proud to be part of the PTC, “As a parent and member
of my community, I have grown concerned with the issues of language,
vulgarity, and gross behavior children see on TV. I always wanted to be
part of something positive like the PTC, and by taking on this leadership
role, I will increase parental awareness on inappropriate programming and
strive to better my community.”
“Chris is a great addition to our growing network of
California chapters that extend from San Francisco to San Diego. The growth
in our grassroots network across the country – and in particularly in
California – demonstrates just how concerned parents and families are about
the coarsening effect television content is having on our children and
grandchildren,” said PTC President Tim Winter. He added, “Chris’ strong
desire to improve the community is the key to a successful grassroots
chapter. I am proud to welcome him and his leadership to the PTC family.”
