Parents Television Council
Grows Leadership with New
Chapter Director and
Advisory Board Chairman for
Central Florida
Scott Plakon to Chair
Advisory Board
LOS ANGELES
(February 28, 2008) — The
Parents Television Council™,
a non-partisan education
organization advocating
responsible entertainment,
announced Susan Schroeder as
the new chapter director for
the Central Florida Chapter
with Scott Plakon as
chairman of the Advisory
Board.
Schroeder has
spent her life educating and
strengthening today’s youth
as a teacher and community
volunteer. A physical
education teacher and career
counselor, Schroeder is also
active in her community as a
Big Sister and Girl Scout
Leader. She has
successfully collaborated
with Oviedo Police
Commanders in establishing
the Substance Abuse Parents
Reporting program at Oviedo
High School. She is now a
proud homemaker.
Like the 1.2
million PTC members, she is
concerned over today’s
raunchy programming. “There
is no greater calling for me
than to support and advocate
for families’ pleas for an
end to vulgarity and
profanity during the family
hour. I am excited to
utilize the PTC’s resources
to educate parents on
responsible programming here
in Central Florida,” said
Schroeder.
Former
chapter director and
community leader Plakon
built a strong chapter that
has become a voice in the
community. A focus of the
chapter has been
awarding corporations for
advertising on programs that
are socially responsible and
family-friendly. Plakon’s
new role in the chapter will
be as Chairman of the new
Advisory Board that will
consist of community leaders
that are concerned about the
impact of today’s media on
our children. “I look
forward to working with
Susan to help expand the
good work of the PTC all
over Central Florida. I’m
proud to stand with an
organization like PTC that
firmly stands against the
coarsening of our society
and is helping to empower
parents to make wise choices
for their children as it
regards to media,” said
Plakon.
Tim Winter,
president of the PTC, said,
“As someone who walks the
walk in his life, Scott
Plakon is the model of who
we want representing the
PTC. To be able to add a
committed educator and
mother like Susan to our
team of volunteer leaders
would be a benefit to any
chapter.”
