“It is my honor to present Pat Boone with the ‘PTC Integrity in Entertainment Award,’ a special recognition for those select individuals who have demonstrated an enduring commitment to uplifting, enlightening, educational and wholesome media messages; and eschewing the harmful, offensive and undermining messages so frequently seen in our entertainment media today,” Mr. Winter said.
“There are a select number of individuals who do more than simply make the occasional family-positive television program or movie. There are a select number of individuals who have demonstrated a life-long commitment to creating, distributing and sponsoring wholesome entertainment products. And I can think of no single human being who has demonstrated this commitment more powerfully and more elegantly than Pat. On behalf of the PTC’s 1.3 million members, thank you, Pat, for all that you have done for families during your fifty-plus years in the entertainment industry.”
“I am honored to receive this award. As a parent and grandparent, I am equally concerned about television programming and its effect on children. We need to stand up to the entertainment industry and demand that it promotes the best of America, instead of deliberately selling our birthright for a mess of ratings and money. I am proud to stand up with the PTC to lend a voice to help accomplish a more decent entertainment environment for our children,” said Mr. Boone.
A PTC Advisory Board Member, Mr. Boone has been a part of the entertainment industry since hosting ABC’s “The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom” at the tender age of 21. Over Mr. Boone’s 50-year career as an entertainer he has worn the hats of musician, actor, author, and radio host. He has sold more that 45 million records, held Billboard Magazine’s all-time record of 200 consecutive weeks on the charts with more than one song, written more than 11 books, and starred in numerous feature films and television productions. Boone is a true humanitarian and over the years has generously given much to assist philanthropic organizations and causes. He has served as spokesperson, national chairman, and host of the Easter Seal Society Telethon, and has co-chaired the National Day of Prayer for many years.
The inaugural presentation of the “PTC Integrity in Entertainment Award” in the television network category went to the Hallmark Channel in January 2007. The J.M. Smucker Company received the award in August 2007 for being a responsible corporate television sponsor.
