“We commend
the
leadership
of Senator
Pryor and
his
colleagues
for
recognizing
the
disconnect
between the
faulty tools
that parents
have to
block
inappropriate
content from
their homes
and the more
meaningful
resources
that could
easily be
made
available,”
said PTC
President
Tim Winter.
“The
unanimous
passage of
the Child
Safe Viewing
Act is a
clear
message to
the
television
networks and
to the FCC
that our
elected
representatives
understand
the
significance
of this
issue. We
encourage
members of
the House of
Representatives
to move
swiftly to
consider
this Senate
bill.
“In order to
work
properly,
blocking
technologies
like the
industry-touted
V-chip rely
on an
accurate
ratings
system. But
the PTC has
demonstrated
time and
time again
in its
reports that
the TV
ratings
system is
not only
arbitrary,
but
blatantly
inaccurate
and clearly
biased since
the TV
networks are
left alone
to rate
their own
shows.
“Parents
deserve more
than dated
tools that
rely on
inaccurate
ratings.
This
legislation
is an
important
first step
towards the
implementation
of more
functional
and reliable
solutions
for parents
and
families. We
applaud the
Congress for
its
commitment
to better
empower
parents to
protect
their
children
from
explicit
content,”
Winter
concluded.
