Parents Television Council Launches Southwest Virginia Chapter
Local mom organizes second Virginia chapter
LOS ANGELES (June 9, 2008) — The Parents Television Council™,
the nation’s most influential advocacy organization protecting
children from graphic sex, violence and profanity in the media,
announced Kai Rikken as the director of the new Southwest
Virginia Chapter.
The Southwest Virginia Chapter will be a useful resource of free
information on the latest news and research for the community
and will recommend healthy programming alternatives to families
through the PTC Seal of Approval ™. Rikken said that “my goal is
to see the day when it is possible once again for families to
sit down together and watch prime time television while not
having to worrying about the constant onslaught of sex,
violence, and profane language. This community is very
concerned about the inappropriate content on TV and with their
participation, we can be an instrument for change. Together we
will make sure local broadcasters know that we care what is
shown on our public airwaves and that we expect better.”
As an active community volunteer, Rikken has dedicated her time
to uplifting the spirits of children in the hospital by teaching
music, playing her banjo, singing and juggling. A Virginia
native, Rikken has lived in all parts of the world including
several states in North America, the Netherlands and Estonia.
She currently owns her own website and is an instructor for
parenting classes.
