Parents Television
Council Launches Central Oklahoma Chapter
Oklahoma Becomes 33rd State to Join Chapter
Network
LOS ANGELES (February 18, 2009) - The
Parents Television Council™, a non-partisan education
organization advocating responsible entertainment,
announced Ladona Sheets as the director of the Central
Oklahoma Chapter. Oklahoma is the 33rd
state to join the powerful grassroots network.
Sheets has been active in local politics
as a volunteer for several campaigns and as a member of
the Edmund Republican Women. Sheets’ chapter
will take an active role in getting local
representatives to focus more time on protecting
children from indecent media, “One of the most important
issues for my chapter is to educate the public as to
ways in which influence can be brought upon our
legislators and government to protect children from
objectionable material. We need to take back control of
our public airwaves,” said Sheets.
Sheets’ concern about today’s television
programming and the negative impact it is having on
children led her to start the Central Oklahoma PTC
Chapter. “I believe children should be protected
from inappropriate material in television. Merely
changing the channel is not an option, that is
essentially accepting what is on that channel,” said
Sheets, “I want to create a strong voice in the
community and show concerned citizens that they can have
an impact on today’s programming through contacting
local stations, advertisers, and political
representatives.”
Her chapter will be a source of
information on the latest news and research for the
community and will also recommend healthy programming
alternatives to families through the PTC Seal of
Approval™. Born
and
raised in Oklahoma, Sheets graduated from University of
Science and Arts of Oklahoma with a BA in English and is
retired. Sheets is a member of the Oklahoma City
Writers’ group, the Edmond Art Association, and the
Fairview Baptist
Church of Edmond.
PTC President Tim Winter said, “It
is not surprising that the PTC has a large base of
members in Oklahoma, a state with a reputation for
strong families and citizens who care about family
values and the entertainment they bring into their
homes. Ladona’s passion and her commitment to the
community make her an excellent leader for Oklahoma’s
first chapter. We proudly welcome her to the PTC
grassroots leadership team.”
