PTC Calls Out CBS for Still Arguing About Janet Jackson Striptease

LOS ANGELES (September 15, 2009) – The Parents Television Council™ issued a statement in response to the FCC brief given to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals today in response to CBS’ appeal of its FCC fine received after the Janet Jackson Super Bowl halftime show in 2004.

“The only reason that CBS is still arguing about the Janet Jackson striptease at the Super Bowl that happened over five years ago is because CBS is trying to create the ability to air this type of content again in the future.  If it was simply a matter of arguing about an FCC fine, CBS could have saved itself and the taxpayers thousands, if not millions, of dollars by paying the fine to begin with.  In fact, it would have been cheaper just to pay the FCC fine.  Instead, CBS chose to make argument after argument in the attempt to justify a striptease on national television in the middle of the Super Bowl – arguably one of the most watched sports events by families,” said PTC President Tim Winter.
