PTC Applauds Procter & Gamble for Responsible Advertising

LOS ANGELES (October 12, 2010) – The Parents Television Council™ applauded Procter & Gamble today for consistently avoiding advertising on programs which contain graphic violence, excessive sexual content or foul language. The PTC spoke at the P&G shareholders meeting and the following remarks were delivered by PTC’s Director of Corporate Relations Glen Erickson:

“I am here today because the Procter & Gamble Company consistently avoids advertising on programming that contains graphic violence, excessive sexual content and foul language, and I would like to congratulate your organization.

“The Parents Television Council monitors television content from all the major broadcast networks as well as original basic cable programming. Procter & Gamble has been advertising in such  family friendly shows as ‘Biggest Loser,’ ‘Extreme Make Over: Home Edition’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ placing Procter & Gamble in an exclusive group of content sensitive advertisers.  As the world’s largest advertiser, P&G has embraced their unique stewardship role and has set a new standard for other advertisers to follow.

“Procter & Gamble has recently partnered with Walmart in producing its own films such as ‘Secrets of the Mountain’ and ‘The Jensen Project.’ Both properties performed well, underscoring audience appetites for high quality family programming.

“Procter & Gamble clearly understands what it means to be a good corporate citizen and the importance of adhering to a set of media guidelines for their advertising messages. On behalf of our 1.3 million members, I’d like to encourage Procter & Gamble to keep up the good work and to continue to offer leadership in making wise media choices.

“Thank you Chairman McDonald and the entire Procter & Gamble management team for promoting family-friendly programming with your advertising dollars,” concluded Erickson.
