PTC Applauds Brinker for No Longer Sponsoring Offensive Television Content
Tim Winter Congratulates Brinker Chairman on Positive Sponsorship Choices

LOS ANGELES (November 8, 2012) – Today, Parents Television Council President Tim Winter reached out on behalf of PTC’s 1.3 million members to thank Brinker for turning a positive corner in their advertising choices.

In years past, Brinker had a record of sponsoring some of the most offensive programming on television; and as recently as 2009, the company appeared on PTC’s "Ten Worst Advertisers" list. Representatives of the PTC appeared at previous shareholders meetings to ask why Brinker would tarnish its hard-earned brand image by associating with such explicit content.

"Today I am pleased to praise Brinker for turning a positive corner. Brinker has changed its ways and is not sponsoring offensive television content. Moreover, Brinker has sponsored positive family-friendly fare as 'Dancing with the Stars,' 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' and 'The Voice,' " said PTC President Tim Winter.

"Wal-Mart's Chief Marketing Officer, Stephen Quinn, recently stated that their research shows an 18% improvement in performance of a television advertisement when in the context of positive programs versus negative programs. The world's largest retailer suggests that a dollar of advertising could generate $5.90 in sales instead of just $5.00.

"Other industry studies confirm that consumers tend not to purchase a certain brand because they do not like a program or event that it sponsored. We believe Brinker's increase in revenue reflects its change in advertising philosophy. Corporate America can do good and do well at the same time.

"So Mr. Chairman, on behalf of children and families across America, I say thank you. I commend Brinker’s change of direction and I congratulate you on your recent success," concluded Winter
