Big Brother
10
on CBS
Rating: TV- PG L
The season premiere of CBS’
Big Brother 10, airing on July 13th at 8:00 p.m. ET, showed
the houseguests moving into the house and becoming acquainted with one another.
These contestants will be filmed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for three
months as one by one they are voted out of the house. At the end of the season,
one houseguest will win a grand prize. The episode was rated TV-PG L with no
content descriptor for the sexual content contained in the episode.
As the houseguests
introduced themselves, April, a 30-year-old finance manager, decided to declare
(for no apparent reason) that her breasts are real. To put aside any doubt, she
walked around the room encouraging several of the women houseguests to grab her
breasts. This seamy scene culminated with Jerry, a married, 75-year-old man,
also groping April’s breasts and declaring that “April’s boobs are real. Very,
very real!” as the other contestants whistled, hooted and cheered.
An S-descriptor would surely
have been warranted to alert parents to the sexual nature of the scene. By
failing to rate the program correctly, CBS ensured that even those homes with a
correctly programmed V-Chip would be bombarded with this sexual display.
If you agree that this program was inadequately
rated, please write to the TV ratings advisory board at
tvomb@usa.net and let them know that the TV
ratings once again failed to adequately warn parents about inappropriate
content.
