The second season of Fox's dramatic series
Prison Break premiered last week
and lived up to it's reputation of being a high intensity show that features
some of the most graphic violence on television. Last season the show found
its way onto our
Worst of the Week list multiple times for violent content and
it appears that Fox has the same in store for viewers this season.
In the premiere episode entitled "Manhunt" we join the group of escaped
prisoners as they flee from police after the break out. T-Bag, an extremely
dangerous escaped sexual predator, sets off on his own to get help with his
severed hand. Weak and covered in blood he threatens a veterinarian with a
screwdriver and demands that he reattach his hand. T-Bag carries the
severed hand in a blood filled cooler. The rest of the escaped convicts
encounter a little girl and her father who are hunting in the woods. John
(a convicted mob boss) grabs the little girl and holds a gun to her head
demanding that the father lay down his shotgun. And as Veronica works to
prove Lincoln's innocence of the crime he was convicted of, a federal law
enforcement agent shoots her in the head, killing her. Veronica is shown
lying dead on the ground with a bloody bullet wound in her head.
Prison Break
shows no signs of backing-off when it comes to violent content on the show
this season. The show has, and apparently will continue to, push the limits
of decency. It would have been appropriate for Fox to tone down the
violence on the show this season and leave it in the 9 o'clock hour, but
unfortunately the executives at Fox have decided to do the opposite,
continuing to feature violent content and moving the show up to the 8
o'clock hour. In this new time slot parents should be cautioned that
Prison Break is not suited for
children of any age.
For it's display of graphic content including blood, dismemberment, guns,
and death, Prison Break is
our pick for Worst
of the Week.
