Fox's infamous
Sunday night primetime line-up premiered this week and lived up to its
reputation for featuring offensive and indecent content. Fox Sunday night,
which begins at 8:00 p.m. and runs through 10:00 p.m., includes three of our
top 10 worst shows for family viewing; The War at Home, Family Guy,
and American Dad. This week's episode of the Family Guy,
which aired at 9:00 p.m., is our pick for Worst of the Week for foul
language, nudity, and a perverse plot line in which Peter believes he has
been raped after receiving a routine prostate exam.
When Peter, the
main character and father figure, goes to the doctor for a flu shot, his
doctor recommends a prostate exam based on Peter's age. Peter is unaware of
what is involved, so when the doctor asks him to pull down his pants and
performs the exam Peter acts as though he has been raped. He runs out of
the office with his pants down moaning. Back at home he huddles in the
fetal position shaking. Once calm, Peter decides the best course of action
is to sue his doctor for sexual assault. In the court room Peter paints an
unrealistic picture of what happened during his exam which shows the doctor
groping, fondling, and kissing him. This show is offensive and
inappropriate for family viewing, but it is perhaps most offensive to
victims of rape, as the writers use common responses people have to sexual
assault as comedy.
The show also
featured foul language including such words as hell, damn, whore, bitch, and
ass. Animated nudity was also portrayed multiple times.
For its vulgar and insensitive plot coupled with foul
language and nudity, Family Guy is our pick for Worst of the Week.
