This week's episode of the ABC legal drama
Boston Legal was filled with offensive and indecent content. With three sex
scenes and a murder trial surrounding an incestuous relationship, Boston
Legal is an easy pick for Worst of the Week.
On last week's episode, we learn that a young
man, who is on trial for murder, was caught by his father masturbating to a nude
picture of his own mother. Now revealed to the court, the young man must
testify about his sexual attraction to his mother. The prosecution attempts to
prove that the man killed the victim, with whom he was having an affair, because
she resembled his mother. What the jury doesn't know, but viewers at home later
learn, is that the mother and son have had an ongoing sexual relationship for
six years, and that the mother actually killed the victim out of jealousy. When
the young man is acquitted of all charges he and his mother exchange a deep
romantic kiss privately in the courthouse. This perverse display of incest is
In a parallel plot, Sally and Alan are engaged
in a sexual love affair. They are shown having sex on two different occasions.
Though humorous music plays during both scenes, flailing body parts and quick
camera shots illustrate the intensity of the encounter. After both scenes Sally
abruptly exits, leaving Alan feeling insecure. Alan seeks advice from his
therapist and ultimately confronts Sally about his feelings. Sally responds by
sleeping with one of Alan's partners. Portraying Sally in a humorous manner as
sexually promiscuous with a total disregard for emotional and physical
consequences is irresponsible and in poor taste for prime time.
For its visual display and verbal discussion of
a mother/son incestuous relationship and three explicit sex scenes, Boston
Legal is our pick for Worst of the Week.
