The animated sitcom Family Guy can always
be relied upon to provide some of the most offensive material television has to
offer. The show and its writers routinely celebrate the most grotesque themes
they can conceive of, but in this week's episode they have reached a new low.
The episode's main storyline revolves around the
teen daughter, Meg, and her obsession with the family dog, Brian. In the
opening scene Meg comes home crying because she can't find a date to her school
dance. After she threatens to kill herself with a knife Brian reluctantly
offers to take her. While at the dance Brian is continuously drinking in an
effort to make the night go by faster. At one point during the dance Brian is
very drunk and "makes out" with Meg. Immediately after they stop kissing Brian
pukes on the ground, then looks up at Meg and asks, "You gonna eat that?"
The next morning, in the kitchen, Meg begins
acting very flirtatious with Brian. When Meg leaves the room baby Stewie says
to Brian, "Well she seems to have taken a shine to you Brian. With a little
encouragement you might get her to put her ankles behind her ears." This type
of dialogue is offensive enough, never mind the fact that it's coming out of the
mouth of a baby boy and was directed to a dog. But the Family Guy writers
were just getting warmed up.
Later in the episode Meg suggests to Brian, the
dog, that they should become boyfriend and girlfriend. Looking for a way out
Brian says, "Uh you know what's strange? I think I might be gay. I saw this
penis on the internet today and I thought to myself 'well, that's just fine.'"
Then as Meg presses Brian to take her to the mall to "pick out underwear" he
tells her that he's spending the day "masturbating" with Chris. Chris then
says, "Well maybe back to back, but I gotta tell ya, I'm not a 100% on this."
This disgusting storyline did not end there, though.
Later, Brian tries to tell Meg that their kiss
was a mistake and that they should just remain friends. Upset, Meg asks, "Did I
do something wrong? Was it because I didn't sniff your butt first?" Meg then
becomes obsessed with Brian and kidnaps him. Meg and Brian are next shown in a
hotel room with Brian tied to a chair. Meg then strips down to her bra and
panties and climbs on Brian's lap in an effort to seduce him.
Accompanying the Meg and Brian storyline was
other highly offensive content. In one scene the old man who is a suspected
pedophile is being robbed by a gang of young children. As they check his
pockets for valuables the old man encourages them saying, "I hope you don't find
the money strapped to my thigh." In another scene Brian unintentionally tells a
joke about him performing oral sex on Meg. He says to Lois, "This morning she
made me eat the hair in her pie." In the final scene the next door neighbor,
Quagmire, is seen preparing for a threesome with two other women. He walks into
the bedroom wearing only his underwear and a ball-gag. When he walks in the
bedroom two half-naked woman are lying on the bed and ask him if he has the
whip.
Foul language included in this episode were
"whore," "bastard," and "bitch."
This disgraceful episode demonstrates these
writers have absolute no boundaries. It's becoming more and more obvious their
mission is to provide the most offensive content they can imagine and in turn
proves that don't have an ounce of respect for the families watching at home.
This is why Family Guy is our pick for Worst of the Week.
