When Peter finds a rare and valuable coin the family is able to open their own
restaurant. Peter becomes disgruntled when his paralyzed friend Joe and his
thirty wheelchair-using friends become the primary patrons of the restaurant.
Peter refuses them service due to their disability. When Peter's wife asks him
why he is against serving the disabled he replies, "Cripples are not cool."
Other offensive
content in the show included Peter hanging a "Scare Jew" dressed like Hitler in
his front yard to keep a Jewish neighbor away; Peter claiming to be Jesus
because he learns that he can conduct static electricity; and Peter serving a
man a cupcake with exploding icing. The man's head explodes and splatters blood
everywhere.
Perhaps the most
inappropriate content involved family friend Quagmire who comes over to help
Peter's wife Lois "tear up her carpet." Quagmire, the town sex addict,
typically associates the word "carpet" with the female pubic region. When he
discovers that Lois literally needs her house's carpeting removed he helps, but
throughout the process he spews obvious sexual innuendo linking the removal of
the carpeting to the shaving of Lois' pubic hair.
Family Guy
continues to be one of the most harmful shows on television. Describing the
disabled with language like "not cool" – language very familiar to children --
is not only irresponsible and offensive, it helps promote intolerance in
society. Family Guy has no place in the 9 o'clock hour of prime-time
television. For this episode's clear disregard for society and families,
Family Guy is our pick for Worst of the Week.
