The Singing Bee on NBC

By Caroline Schulenburg

NBC’s new program The Singing Bee is one of the most exciting and family-friendly programs on prime time television, and has received rave reviews from critics and viewers alike. The July 24th showcased the program’s clean fun and has earned our pick as Best of the Week.

As the show began, the band and a singer performed “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” as host Joey Fatone made his way through the audience to pick out audience members to compete in the program based on their knowledge of the song’s lyrics. The chosen contestants proceed to the stage where the band performs another song. When they stop, the contestants must continue singing. Those who are unable to remember lyrics or remember them incorrectly are eliminated, while the others move on to the next round.

Songs ranging from “Freebird” to “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” give the program the ability to appeal to many generations. The contestants are good-natured and congratulate each other while host Joey Fatone is supportive and entertaining.

The Singing Bee is a great program for the entire family. For demonstrating that broad appeal and lack of questionable content are not mutually exclusive, this program is our Best of the Week.
