Set for Life on ABC

By Caroline Schulenburg

Set for Life is one of the newest game shows on prime time this summer. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the show invites contestants to play a game of chance that could result in their receiving a monthly paycheck for the next forty years. This program is fun for the whole family and is our pick for Best of the Week

In the July 27th episode, a firefighter comes to try his luck at winning an extra paycheck for the rest of his life. Accompanied by his best friend, the fire chief who serves as his “Guardian Angel,” he explains how important his job is to him and how much it would mean to him to have the money to buy a house near his friend and settle down with his family. Even though the fireman did not win the jackpot, his delight at seeing how supportive his friends and family are, and his gratitude for their presence in his life, makes for positive programming that parents can feel good about sharing with their children.

Set for Life has the potential to be a successful family-friendly program. With positive messages about family and friends and an emphasis on what is important in life, Set for Life will most certainly be a Best of the Week in the future.
