So You Think You Can Dance on Fox

By Caroline Schulenburg

So You Think You Can Dance ended its acclaimed third season on a high note last week with three nights of exciting dances and inspiring stories.  The episode that aired on August 15th was a lot of fun for the whole family and is our choice for Best of the Week.

The evening began with a look at how the final four dancers made it to the top. Flashbacks showed the contestants standing in long lines during bad weather, waiting for their turn to prove themselves to the judges.  Also shown were clips of the contestants progressing on their journey and developing as dancers.

The program was more than just a look back at weeks past, though. Each remaining dancer performed a solo for the judges, and then performed with various partners one last time.

Some of the night’s most exciting performances were modern dances. In the first, Sabra and Lacey were paired up to dance the roles of a mother fox and her baby. In the second routine, Neil and Danny danced the roles of two brooding, warring princes. The passionate and fiery routine drew enthusiastic praise from the judges and the audience.

Other more traditional dances performed that night were Lacey and Danny’s gorgeous waltz, which thrilled judges Nigel and Mary, and an exuberant lindy hop danced by Lacey and Neil.

It is a shame that So You Think You Can Dance has ended its run for the season; but as Nigel went on to announce during the finale,  it will be returning next summer to bring viewers still more family-friendly and enjoyable programming.
