The Power of Ten on CBS

By Caroline Schulenburg

Power of Ten is one of the newest and most exciting quiz shows on television. Hosted by soon-to-be face of The Price is Right Drew Carey, Power of Ten challenges contestants to guess how Americans responded to various questions about cultural attitudes on subjects ranging from race relations to pop culture. The contestants have to guess how a percentage of those surveyed responded, and if their answer is not within a certain range, they are unable to move ahead in the game. Successful contestants can potentially win up to ten million dollars.

The first contestant to try her luck on the August 28th episode was a real-estate agent named Kurtney Noonan from Encinitas, California. She was able to accurately guess how many Americans have had a person of another race in their home.

The second contestant was Julie McCracken, a bartender from Charlotte, North Carolina with an affinity for race cars. She was asked what percentage of women would prefer to watch the Super Bowl rather than the Academy Awards, but answered incorrectly. Both contestants ended up going home with only a thousand dollars, but had a good time trying anyways.

Power of Ten is a fun and interesting television show that is probably better-suited to older children given the sophistication of some of the questions. Drew Carey is a good host who is consistently supportive of the contestants and makes the program a genuinely enjoyable viewing experience. For providing wholesome and thought-provoking entertainment, Power of Ten is our choice for Best of the Week.
