The hugely
successful game show Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader has
been one of the most highly-anticipated returning shows of the fall season.
Audiences everywhere have looked forward to the return of Jeff Foxworthy and his
class of precocious 5th graders, as they provided some of the most
family-friendly entertainment last spring.
The episode that
aired Friday September 14th served as a great reminder of all that is
likeable about this program. The first contestant to appear was Eric Moore, the
graduate of a Catholic elementary school whose current students made a video to
wish him good luck. Unfortunately, Eric was unable to answer his second question
correctly, which lead to a new contestant named Melanie, a produce saleswoman
from Florida. Melanie had a tough time remembering which president preceded
Franklin Roosevelt and before she could reach her second question, she was
eliminated from the game. (In case you’re wondering, the answer wasn’t “James
Madison.”) The final contestant was a sales representative named Linda. Linda
brought along a stuffed toy that has brought her luck ever since she was a
child. Jeff sniffed the toy and announced that it must really work for Linda to
still be carrying it around. The stuffed bunny was apparently quite lucky, as
Linda answered one question after another correctly and left the game $300,000
richer.
It is a certainty
that Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader has been able to enjoy
so much success due in large part to its lack of family-unfriendly content. With
subject matter that both parents and children can bond over, as well as comedy
from Foxworthy that appeals to all generations, Are You Smarter Than a 5th
Grader will surely continue to be a Best of the Week long into the
new fall season.
