Beautiful scenery and the potential for adventure help round out this exciting
new series about the Clarkes, a family from New York who relocate to South
Africa for a year to try and grow closer. Life is Wild debuted on the
CW and airs on Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. (ET/PT, 7:00 p.m. CT/MT).
Katie Clarke is an ordinary teenager who is getting used to her new stepmother
and step-siblings following the death of her own mother, and her father’s
remarrying. When the announcement is made that the family will be moving, Katie
is a bit skeptical, but more committed to seeing her family happy than her own
interests.
When
they arrive, the Clarkes are greeted by Art, Katie’s rough-around-the-edges
grandfather who leads them through his lodge with its exotic animals and
mysterious hunting trophies. Her younger siblings and new stepmother try to
disguise their apprehension and reaffirm their commitment to growing closer as a
family as one wild animal after another moves through a bedroom or through a
hallway. As she is unpacking, Katie reminds herself of her commitment to seeing
her father happy as a warthog trots past her bed.
This
series promises to be a good one for children of all ages. Teenagers can relate
to Katie who loves her family deeply but is beginning to think of her own
future. Younger children will identify with the young children in the series and
appreciate seeing the wild animals who figure prominently. Parents will be glad
to see a program that truly celebrates the idea of family and the importance of
being committed to one another. With any luck, Life is Wild will be
around a long time where it will certainly be our Best of the Week
again.
