Don't Forget the Lyrics on Fox

By Caroline Schulenburg

Don’t Forget the Lyrics has established itself as one of the most family-friendly and enjoyable programs on television. This program appeals to adults and children alike for being genuinely fun and almost completely free of questionable content. The episode that aired on Friday, November 9th at 9:00 p.m. ET was one of the most exciting, as a single mother named Dottie Harris won $500,000, more than any contestant so far.

Dottie gets off to a rocky start in the competition, but soon she is sailing through songs by Billy Joel, the Doobie Brothers and more. As she hits landmark amounts of money she tells Wayne of the things she’d like to be able to do for her family. As the sole supporter of three of her own children as well has her own younger brother, Dottie wants to do more than just be able to provide them with the bare necessities. She wants to be able to enrich their lives by providing for their education and enabling them to pursue their interests. She is delighted when she has won enough money to be able to give her musically inclined son the instruments he would like to learn. One of the most poignant moments comes when she has won enough money to be able to afford gastric bypass surgery. As she explains to host Wayne Brady, she wants to be around to take care of her children and watch them grow up. Dottie is the sort of contestant audiences are excited to see succeed. Dottie is relentlessly selfless throughout the entire game as she makes plans for spending her money. When she is about to win $500,000 dollars she tells Wayne Brady that one of the things that would make her happiest would be to “rain a little sunshine” on her 96-year-old grandmother. Her love for her family, her winning personality, and a good singing voice make her a contestant everyone can root for…and made Don’t Forget the Lyrics our Best of the Week.
