Everybody Hates Chris on CW

By Caroline Schulenburg

Everybody Hates Chris is once again our Best of the Week. The November 12th episode, titled “Everybody Hates Houseguests,” follows Chris as he tries to get used to sharing a room with his friend Greg, who is staying with the family while his father is out of town. Chris tries to figure out what it is about having Greg stay over that has suddenly transformed Chris’ mother into an enthusiastic hostess. He struggles to get a decent night’s sleep when he discovers that Greg, an only child and a vegetarian, dresses up as a different superhero each night before he goes to sleep so as to keep things interesting for God when he says his prayers and to scare off monsters. Greg also has the rare habit of singing and dancing in his sleep -- when he isn’t snoring loudly.

Chris grows more and more frustrated as the week goes on, and realizes that he and Greg have different day-to-day lives. Chris has a much longer commute to school, as well as a job to try and earn pocket money. Greg, who is from a more privileged neighborhood, has pocket money given to him, a shorter commute and is generally less stressed. But when tensions culminate between the two friends, Chris ultimately realizes that he is lucky to have a large, loving family rather than the money and comfortable life that Greg has.

Everybody Hates Chris continues to focus on the importance of family, friends and responsibility while being funny and entertaining, making the program a good choice for older children and adults. Such positive and lighthearted entertainment will ensure that it will again be a Best of the Week.
