The Game on CW

The CW’s comedy The Game is yet another example of the network presenting negative behavior in a positive light.  The series revolves around professional football players and the women who love them.  In this week’s episode, entitled “Turkey Basting Bit**es,” main character Derwin’s teammates help him “live the life of a single professional athlete.”  The show, which aired at 9:00 p.m. on November 26^th, featured foul and demeaning language, nudity, and an atrocious plotline where a woman tries to steal Derwin’s semen and impregnate herself with a turkey baster.

Foul language is present throughout the episode, with words like “hell,” “damn,” and “ass” dominating.  In one scene Derwin is called a “negro” by an African-American female in an extremely degrading tone of voice.  Additionally, women were greatly devalued by the langue in the episode.  “Bitch” and “slut” were used repeatedly, as well as “skank,” “hoochie,” and “ho.”

The men in the episode exhibited great disrespect for women when they try to give Derwin advice on how to live as a single man.  They give him three rules to live by.  First, they instruct him never to use girls’ real names, but rather to give them nicknames like “hottie, buckwild, or delicious.”  Next, they say that he should never spend more than four hours with any one girl.  Finally, they tell him never to have a sleep-over with a girl, but only to “hit it and quit it.”

Finally, the episode dealt with disturbing behavior as if it were normal and comedic.  Women discuss their methods of becoming pregnant by professional football players, thus tying themselves to the men and their wealth.  They talk about the method of having intercourse with the man, stealing his condom following ejaculation, and injecting the semen into themselves with a turkey baster.  Derwin is shown having sex with a topless woman on the living room couch and catching her trying to steal his condom.  Derwin is painted as a hero for standing up to the sperm thief.

This episode of The Game simply doesn’t take life seriously.  It irresponsibly throws around issues of sexual promiscuity, gender rights and roles, and race relations.  The networks profit off of these very real issues while the young viewers suffer for making poor life decisions based on television’s fantasy depictions.  For this reason, The Game is our pick for Worst of the Week.
