Criminal Mind on CBS

In the April 30th episode of Criminal Minds, “In Heat,” the elite team of FBI profilers are sent to Miami in search of yet another serial killer. This killer preys on homosexual male tourists, choking them to death and assuming their identities. Jennifer ‘JJ’ Jareau, a member of the profiling team, encounters her “secret” detective boyfriend who follows  the murder investigation of his own partner by the same serial killer. The team tracks down the father of one of the “victims,” who is revealed to be the father of the killer himself. Having  brutalized his gay son, the father lead his son to hate his own sexual identity. Agent Morgan tracks the killer to a youth hostel and manages to have him surrender peacefully.

With an 8 p.m. lead-in from family-friendly game show The Price is Right: Million Dollar Spectacular, some viewers might have been caught unaware by the sexually graphic opening sequence of Criminal Minds. In a CBS trademark blend of sexuality and violence, a woman and a man kiss passionately on a yacht, which transitions into rear-entry sex. Bent over the ship’s railing ,the woman is shocked to find the face of a floating corpse.

Midway through the episode, the serial killer picks up an unsuspecting male victim, who attempts to engage him in oral sex, bending at the knees and unbuckling the killer’s belt buckle. The killer responds by punching the man in the face and calling him “filthy” and “disgusting.”

For the graphic sexual and violent content, and its easy proximity to family programming, Criminal Minds deserves the title Worst TV Show of The Week.
