Don’t Forget the Lyrics on FOX

By Ally Matteodo

Airing on Friday, January 16th at 9:00 p.m. ET, Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics is the Best TV Show of the Week.  Hosted by Wayne Brady, Don’t Forget the Lyrics tests the contestant’s knowledge of song lyrics from a variety of genres.  This particular episode was a celebrity edition of the popular game show, and featured the magician duo Penn and Teller.  Although Penn expressed his ignorance of music and lyrics at the beginning of the episode, he made it quite far in the game.  Despite using the comedian Carrot Top and the musician Edgar Winter as lifelines, Penn and Teller were undone when they could not finish the lyrics for the song “Love Me Two Times” by the Doors.  The monetary winnings of Penn and Teller went to the James Randi Educational Foundation charity.

Penn and Teller were a delightful, dynamic duo.  The magicians performed a couple of amusing tricks during their time on stage. Penn called up a volunteer from the audience named Stephanie.  He took off her glasses and put them in his front pocket.  He then reached into his pocket a couple of minutes later and lamented losing them.  Meanwhile, Teller had a cement block around his head, and Wayne Brady begged Penn to remove it before the show continued.  Penn chiseled away at it, and when the cement broke free, lo and behold, Stephanie’s glasses were on Teller’s face!  Penn did all the singing, with Teller amusing standing by mute.  Penn performed a rough version of “Unchained Melody,” and an enthusiastic rendition of “Blue Suede Shoes.”  Don’t Forget the Lyrics spreads the joy of music and song, and infects the viewer with the thrill of remembering those darn lyrics!
