Hell's Kitchen
on Fox
Earlier this month, the Parents Television Council released the study, “Habitat
for Profanity” which documented the 69.3% rise in the use of profanity across
all broadcast networks from 2005-2010. The study also found the following
alarming statistic:
•Across all networks and prime time hours, use of the bleeped or muted f-word
increased from 11 instances total in 2005 to 276 instances in 2010 – an increase
of 2,409%.
That’s right, 2,409 percent!
Fox was responsible for the lion's share of that increase and it’s not hard to
understand why. In fact, there are only two possible explanations: 1) Gordon and
2) Ramsay.
Hell’s Kitchen (Wednesdays 9 p.m.), the potty-mouth Brit’s flagship show,
regularly serves up an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of profanity and the November
17th episode was no exception. So, for vulgar language and harsh verbal abuse
Hell’s Kitchen has been named the Worst TV Show of the Week.
In the episode, the field of chef-testants has been whittled down to the top six
and the teams have been consolidated into one. For their first challenge, they
must create an impressive amuse-bouche. After Russell receives a perfect score,
the last contestant, Trev, realizes his dish must be phenomenal. “I have to get
[bleeped f***ing] 10s from all of [the judges] so this thing better [bleeped
f***ing] taste awesome,” he says to the camera. But his dish is an utter flop;
the judges actually laugh at it. “Apparently, my amuse was quite amusing,”
Trevor spews, “I go out of the box and all they could do was poo-poo it. Right
there! [He flips off the camera.]”
Trevor’s sour mood continues through the kitchen prep time before service. He
snaps at the female contestants that he considers incompetent and later tells
the camera, “These girls totally [bleeped f***ing] suck...It's always me
covering somebody else's ass. So screw everybody else. It pisses me off to no
end.”
The dinner service goes from bad to worse. Chef Ramsay’s patience begins to
evaporate like steam from a pot. “There's no team work, there's no care, there's
no passion,” he complains. “[bleeped F***] you all! I'm [bleeped f***ing]
dying.” His abuse turns positively venomous when Sabrina buries her head in her
work. “Look at me, you ignorant bitch. Look at my [bleeped f***ing] eyes when
I'm talking to you!” As the dinner service continues to go down in flames,
eventually, Ramsay can’t take it anymore. He throws all of the chefs out of the
kitchen. “I cannot do this any [bleeped f***ing] more. I can't do it anymore.
It's not fair on [bleeped f***ing] me. It's not fair on them [the customers].
Get out! [bleeped F***] off! Get out!”
In total, the f-word alone was bleeped 37 times in a single hour of programming,
along with numerous bleeped s-words, and bleeped who-knows-what. Bleeps are
happening on top of bleeps for words one can only imagine. The bleeps are so
consistent and plentiful, watching the show almost sounds like standing in a
check-out line for an hour.
For a ridiculous amount of profanity, Hell’s Kitchen has been named Worst TV Show of the Week.
