  American Dad on Fox

American Dad (Sundays 7:00 and 9:30 p.m. ET) gets a lot of mileage out of the haplessly nerdy teen-age son, Steve. If he and his equally geeky friends aren’t reveling in their dorkiness, then they are trying to escape it – usually by losing their virginity or somehow currying favor. This is a standard trope in comedies that involve outcast teenagers. The problem, however, is that teens aren’t the only ones watching animated shows. Since Fox airs American Dad at 7:00 p.m. (and as early as 6:00 p.m. in the Central/Mountain time zone), younger audiences have a chance to tune in. And if they watched on July 10^th (which was a rerun of a show that originally aired on April 10^th), they were treated to the kind of mature sexual content that warrants the title of Worst TV Show of the Week.

Klaus bets Roger that he can’t transform Steve into one of the “cool kids.” So Roger attends Steve’s high school, posing as a popular student. The first order of business, according to Roger:

Roger: “Okay, the easiest way to be cool, be the guy with the big kielbasa. Size 14 high-tops and a thick spicy one. Slips these on and I'll slip this in.”

Roger puts Steve in some oversized shoes and stuffs his trousers with a long sausage.

Roger: “Mmm. Look at that bulge. Best part of waking up is bulgers in your cup. Now go wag that mama all over school, cool guy.”

Steve walks through the halls with his trousers stuffed. In the background "My Dick" by Mickey Avalon is heard, containing the following lyrics:

“My ___ (muted dick) costs a late-night fee.

Your ___ (muted dick) got the HIV.

My ___ (muted dick) plays on the double-feature screen.

Your ___ (muted dick) went straight to DVD.

My ___ (muted dick) is bigger than a bridge”

When a dog sniffs the sausage in Steve’s trousers and eats it, Roger poses another strategy.

Roger: “Alright, new plan. You're gonna be the tough guy. Now you're one of the biggest wimps in school. So you'll have to find somebody even wimpier and just kick their ass.”

Steve walks up to a frail Indian girl named Reshma and slaps her roughly.

Upon hearing that Steve hit Reshma, the Principal takes his coffee pot and shatters it across Steve's face.

Later, Roger patches Steve up.

Roger: “Didn't think I had to specify that you should kick a boy's ass.”

Steve: “Sorry.”

Roger: “Don't apologize to me, apologize to Reshma. Bitch is hysterical.”

Ultimately, Steve does finally win acceptance when he becomes the designated driver of a party tractor that shuttles 50 drunken teens to different keg parties. At one point, Reshma pushes through the crowd and finds Steve. She slaps Steve in the face, then kisses him with tongue. “When these come in,” pointing to her breasts, “they're all yours.”

Cartoons aren’t what they used to be. And parents need to be aware that even though a program is animated, doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for children.

For lewd sexual content, American Dad has been named Worst TV Show of the Week.
