Worst TV Show of the Week

In the Flow with Affion Crockett on Fox

One might forgive the raunchiness of Affion Crockett’s sketch comedy show In the Flow (Sundays, 9:30 p.m. ET ) if the program was funny. But sadly, the show lacks wit, ingenuity, and – according to the Nielsen ratings – viewers. What the show does have in ample supply is lewd content; and where it falls short in concepts and cleverness, it more than makes up for with volume and vulgarity. The end result is a collection of shrill, grating, blatantly obvious, needlessly offensive, woefully unfunny celebrity impersonations and ham-handed parodies, which have earned In the Flow with Affion Crockett the title of Worst TV Show of the Week for the second week in a row.

In this episode’s “Hustles with Russells” sketch, Affion once again plays the clone of hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, who appears as himself in the sketch. And once again, the premise is the same as last week: the Russells are casting models for a runway show and Affion sexually harasses the women. After Affion looks up one of the model’s skirts, he gets turned on and apparently ejaculates into his pants. “Russell, I think I got my pocket pregnant…my jeans are going to have babies.”

Premature ejaculation appears in another sketch from the same episode, which guest stars J.B. Smoove as “iDaddy,” a tablet application for single mothers who want their children to have a father figure. Unfortunately, Smoove is more like a deadbeat dad. After his adopted son thanks him for taking him to the park, Smoove replies, “Wait one damn minute. You think I wanted to be here throwing a ball around with you at the park? Your mama made me do this (bleeped bull****). I wanted to stay home and watch lingerie football. Now hand me a hot dog before I put a foot in yo' ass.” At one point an attractive girl passes by and Smoove comments, “ (Bleeped g**) damn! (Bleeped f***) yeah! I wouldn't mind putting some mustard on them buns.” The son chimes in with his own catcalls:” Yeah, I wouldn't mind (bleeped) those (bleeped).” Smoove proudly commends his son’s inappropriate comments.

Later the mother sets up the final scenario.

Mom: “iDaddy will be there for all of the really important moments of your son's life.”

The son enters his bedroom kissing a girl. She opens her top, revealing her bra.

iDaddy: “Slow down, boy. Why you going so damn fast? You gonna mess around and –“

The son prematurely ejaculates and runs out of the room, ashamed, leaving the girl on his bed.

iDaddy: “Look here, girl. Unlike my son, Big Daddy here got a battery that's fully charged. So why don't you put me on vibrate and throw those funbags on my glass.”

She takes the iPad with her underneath the covers. The mom walks in and catches them in bed together.

Mom: “Save some for me.”

iDaddy: “Hell yeah!”

The mom hops into bed with the girl and the iPad and they all begin moaning.

This clumsy sketch illustrates the show’s comedic laziness. It doesn’t bother trying to satirize technology; it makes no coherent statement about parenting; it’s merely an excuse to be salacious.

For vulgar language and crude sexual content, In the Flow with Affion Crockett has been named Worst TV Show of the Week…again!
