PTC's Lovelace
Internship Program Trains Future Generation of Leaders
If you happen to call the PTC Los Angeles
office you might be greeted by the cheerful voice of Maureen McGinnis. Or,
if you read the PTC website, you might notice an article by Carl Monaco.
These are just a few of the hard working young men and women who spent this
past fall interning for the PTC.
From September through December six interns
completed the PTC's Lovelace Internship program, which was designed to give
college students and recent graduates practical, hands-on experience to
train them for future careers as activists. Interns were assigned to each
of the PTC departments (including Research and Publications, Grassroots,
Development, and Corporate and Entertainment Affairs) according to their
areas of special interest. Here, they were mentored and trained in the
professional skills necessary to succeed in their chosen field.
Interns participated in training workshops
focusing on a different aspects of the PTC's work each week, and then had
the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge by working on a related
project for the PTC. They also had the opportunity to contribute to the
organization by doing research, writing articles, working on studies,
logging television shows for the PTC archive, assisting with the grassroots
chapters, and designing proposals for new PTC campaigns.
The Lovelace Internship program is made
possible by the generous support of Jon and Lillian Lovelace.
Some of the interns were so pleased with their
experience that asked to be allowed to stay on a second semester. Those
interns who remain through the spring will have a chance to work in-depth on
a single, extensive project.
