Everyone's Hero is Christopher Reeve's final project before his untimely death, and
tells the story of a young Yankee's fan, Yankee Irving (Jake T. Austin),
living in New York during the 1930s.
The film takes place in the
prime of the New York Yankees' famous run of World Series wins. The owner
of the Chicago Cubs decides to steal Babe Ruth's (Brain Dennehy)
bat
believing it to be the Babe's lucky charm, and in hopes of stopping the
Bambino from helping the Yankees win.
When the bat is stolen from the
Yankee club house Yankee Irving's father, the groundskeeper (Mandy Patinkin),
gets the blame and is fired. The only way he can get his job back is if the
bat is found. With some help from a talking baseball (Ed Helms), Yankee
plans to find the bat and give it back to the Babe in Chicago - just in time
to save the Yankees from losing the World Series - and more importantly
saving his father's job.
Early in the film Yankee is
teased for his inability to play baseball. But, with the help of new
friends and by believing in himself, by the end of the film he learns the
keys to being a good hitter. The story weaves a tale about family and how
far to go to save the people you love. Families with children five years
old and up will enjoy this tale centered around America's Favorite Pastime.
