Mitchie Torres is a teenage girl obsessed with music. Her dream is to attend Camp Rock, a prestigious summer camp which serves as a stepping stone for pop stars and musicians. When her mother becomes the camp’s cook, Mitchie finally can make her dream a reality. Mitchie meets an array of different kids, most of whom have a famous parent or whose families are wealthy. Having difficulty making new friends, Mitchie lies about having a famous mother. She gets caught up with a materialistic crew, led by Tess Tyler, a famous singer’s daughter. Meanwhile, boy band sensation Shane Gray is forced to teach at Camp Rock by his record company as punishment for having a bad attitude. Shane takes an interest in Mitchie and her talent. The situation gets rocky once the end of the summer ‘final jam’ show gets near. In the end, Mitchie learns that she must be true to herself.

Although the love story between Shane and Mitchie develops throughout the entire film, there is no kissing or inappropriate content. When Shane’s brothers call him to check in on the Camp Rock experience, they are seated by a pool with two unlabeled bottles that appear to be beer and a smaller glass that looks like a shot glass. However, it is never clear exactly how old the boys are and the brothers are never portrayed as drunk. Mitchie lies about her mother is to impress the other teens. Tess jealously bullies Mitchie.

Camp Rock emphasizes the importance of being true to yourself, being proud of who you are, having a good attitude, and following your dreams. Even Tess learns in the end that material items aren’t everything, and all she wants to do is make her mother proud.

The DVD also contains bonus features including an extended never-before-seen ending, and "How To Be A Rock Star," a series of tips and secrets from the Camp Rock cast for aspiring teen singers.

Because of its positive themes, the Parents Television Council awards Camp Rock with the PTC Seal of ApprovalTM. The PTC recommends this DVD for viewers age 6 and up.
