In
high school, Marni was the quintessential outcast, with glasses, braces, and
acne, and was constantly bullied by the beautiful and nasty head cheerleader,
Joanna. Ten years later, Marni returns home for her brother Will's wedding – to
Joanna! Marni's mother Gail counsels her to forgive and forget...but has Joanna
really changed? And when Joanna's wealthy aunt Ramona turns out to be Gail's own
high school nemesis, will Gail be able to take her own advice?
There is little
content to concern parents in You Again. Characters engage in some
kissing and hugging, and during Joanna's outrageously staged wedding rehearsal,
some very mildly suggestive dance moves are used. Mild innuendo occurs
occasionally, such as Grandma Bunny remarking, "'Cougar'? I told him, 'I'm old
enough to be your grandmother!' " Much physical comedy is seen, with the
accident-prone Marni frequently tripping, falling, and crashing into others; a
humorous catfight between Marni and Joanna, in which they throw plates and food
at one another; and the aforementioned dance rehearsal, which ends in chaos as
everyone thrashes about, trying to outdo each other. The movie opens by showing
some of the painful bullying undergone by Marni in high school, and much of the
movie is concerned with her humorous attempts at gaining revenge.
You Again
is a hilarious and perceptive comedy, certain to resonate with anyone whose high
school years were less than pleasant. Filled with music and a number of
delightful dance routines which make good use of the stars' talents, it also
teaches the ultimate importance of learning to forgive – while nevertheless
showing deserving characters getting a satisfying comeuppance.
Because of its
tremendous entertainment value for the whole family, and its emphasis on good
values, the Parents Television Council is proud to award You Again with
the PTC Seal of ApprovalTM. The PTC recommends this DVD for
viewers over age ten.
